Dear cousin Kjærulf and family.

In 2006 we had our last Kiermeet which was held in the Philippines. It was a tremendous experience for the more than 200 Kjærulfs participating from the Philippines and the rest of the world. Our next Kiermeet meeting is in 2010 which the Danish committee and the American committee have decided should be held in California.

Kiermeet 2010 will be held in California, USA July 17 – 25, 2010

The Kiermeet Committees in Denmark and the USA would like to invite you to Kiermeet 2010 in California. The event takes place 17-25 July 2010.

If you have not already signed up you should do so not later than March 15 if you want to participate in the full package. If you only want to participate in the family dinner in Solvang you should register not later than May 15. Visit http://www.albatros-travel.dk/kiermeet2010 today and make a reservation for yourself and your family. We have had some initial problems with the website but they have been solved now.

We are sure that Kiermeet 2010 will be a great experience. Here is a little taste of what we will do: exploring the Los Angeles area with Beverly Hills, Hollywood film studious, and Santa Monica. We will go to Solvang and have a fabulous family reunion dinner. We will drive along the Pacific coast on the beautiful Highway 1, driving through the Big Sur, visiting Hearst Castle, seeing the breathtaking coastal landscape on the 17 Mile drive, and finally take you to San Francisco. In the San Francisco area we can visit places like Fisherman’s Wharf, the former famous prison Alcatraz, go to Muir Woods for the old and huge redwood trees and see the picturesque town of Sausalito. You will have time of your own to take the historic cable car up and down the hills, go shopping and visit other places like China Town and the sea lions at Pier 39.

If you depart from Copenhagen  you can also purchase a discounted ticket from Copenhagen/Oslo/Stockholm – Los Angeles and return from San Francisco from the Danish travel agency Albatros Travel.

Kiermeet is a non-profit event arranged by a committee of volunteers who already arranged a number of successful meetings: California (1986), Denmark (1990), US Virgin Islands (1994), Norway/Denmark (1998), Iceland 2002, the Philippines 2006 and we are working on making Kiermeet2010 in California at least as successful as the previous meetings.

The Kiermeet Committees in California and Denmark have now finalised discussions about the programme and arrangements for Kiermeet 2010 in California and now you can secure your participation in the event by making your binding registration for KIERMEET 2010.

We have put together a Kiermeet trip 17 – 25 July 2010 where we will be exploring lovely California from entertaining Los Angeles, the City of Angels, and drive along the scenic Pacific coast on Highway 1 to fascinating San Francisco. Our traditional family dinner will, of course, be held in the small town of Solvang, where Danes originally settled way back.

Visiting California has another purpose: meeting local American Kierulf relatives in their own environment. We will meet each other on tours, dine together, talk together and make new, long-lasting friendships. It is going to be a great experience for all of us.

We have worked with the travel agency Albatros Travel in Denmark to arrange the tour and will accommodate your easy booking and payment for either the full trip or individual events. We have created a comprehensive package of various choices. You can choose between the following:

1. Full Kiermeet 2010 trip starting in Copenhagen with return flights, hotels, breakfast, sightseeing, and family dinner in Solvang and San Francisco – a limited number of flight seats are available.

2. California-only Kiermeet 2010 starting in Los Angeles and ending in San Francisco with hotels, breakfast, sightseeing, and family dinner in Solvang and San Francisco.

3. Kiermeet 2010 family dinner only in Solvang.

4. Hotel accommodations in Solvang in connection with the family dinner.

 You can select, book and pay Kiermeet on a special website which Albatros Travel has designed for us on the web. Once you have selected your favourite choice and sent your order on the website, you will receive an invoice from Albatros Travel. Then we have made it easy for you: you can pay with the most common credit cards on the website. If you live outside Europe you will pay in US dollars – in Europe you will pay in Danish Kroner.

Please note that your payments to the travel agent are fully secured by Danish law in the event that the travel agent or partners should fail before or during the trip when you take the full Kiermeet trip out of Copenhagen or the “California only” trip.

Please also note that all participants will receive a tote bag with Kiermeet 2010 goodies during the trip. The costs are covered by your payment of USD 50 per person. The payment will be collected at the time of registration on the Albatros Travel website and is compulsory for all.

If you want Albatros Travel to make additional travel arrangements for you, before or after Kiermeet 2010, you can fill in the last box on the order form: “Remarks: Please specify your need for pre and post arrangements, special wishes for meals or any other special requirements. We will contact you by mail or phone if we have any further questions”

At the time of booking, a deposit of DKK 3,000 (approx. USD 600) per person must be paid if you take the “full Kiermeet 2010 trip” and DKK 2,000 (approx. USD 400) if you take “California only”. If you apply for cancellation insurance in case of illness, it must be paid at the same time as the deposit. The remaining payment must be submitted no later than 60 days prior to departure. If you order “family dinner only in Solvang” or “hotel in Solvang” you will pay the full amount.

Your next step is now to visit the Albatros Travel website to sign up and make sure that you will participate in Kiermeet 2010. You should do so not later than March 15 if you want to participate in the full package. If you only want to participate in the family dinner in Solvang you should register not later than May 15.
